Originally opened in the glory days of the steam train as one of the great flagship hotels, (along with Gleneagles), this Edwardian building enjoys a unique setting.

Set on a ridge it overlooks the golf courses, Turnberry Bay and beyond to the famous Ailsa Craig, the Isle of Arran and the Mull of Kintyre - the fantastic sunsets are included !! The hotel`s courses, the Ailsa & the Kintyre are on your doorstep.

Both courses were rescued after the WW2 from near extinction by Mackenzie Ross and the Ailsa has gone on to host the `Open` in `77 (Watson), `86 (Norman) and `94 (Price). Everyone remembers the `77 Open as the `Duel in the Sun` starring Tom Watson and Jack Nicklaus. The Kintyre course was formerly the Arran; (a favourite with the locals and tougher than the Ailsa?!), has recently been redesigned by the world famous Donald Steel. What has emerged is a fantastic compliment to the architect and to the Ailsa. We are sure it will go on to host many championships and become one of the worlds best in the future.

What makes Turnberry that little bit special, apart from the golf, is the staffs intuitive understanding of the traditions of friendly hospitality and service.

The Turnberry Resort will be closed from 1 November - 21 July 2009 for a major refurbishment. The Ailsa course will also be closed for this period. Lodge accommodation will be available from 1st May - 11th July but with no hotel facilities. The Kintyre course will be open throughout the whole period of refurbishment but will be a composite course from 14th June.

Bookings for the newly refurbished hotel are being taken for the 21st July 2009 onwards.

Facilities

There are a variety of bars throughout the hotel and clubhouse and a choice of three restaurants. 2 Championship golf courses including the `Open` Ailsa Course and the Donald Steel Kintyre Course.

Extensive Spa facilities including 20m pool, spa bath, saunas, steam rooms, hydrotherapy baths, treatment rooms, relaxation rooms and solarium. On the sport and leisure side there are squash courts, gymnasium, tennis courts, pitch and putt, putting greens, jogging trails and snooker tables.

Food And Drink

There are three choices of dining at Turnberry. The main hotel restaurant serves classic Scottish and French cuisine while the Terrace in Turnberry`s Spa has a lighter Mediterranean style menu.

The Tappie Toorie Grill in the golf clubhouse features wholesome dishes from an informal a la carte menu. All the restaurants share a bias towards fresh locally grown produce with seafood, game , fruit and vegetables delivered daily.

True to his national roots Turnberry`s Chef will not accept meat hung for less than three weeks and needless to say it has to be Scottish!
