There is a truly golden golfing triangle in the Carolinas - it stretches from coastal Myrtle Beach, along the northern coast and inland to Pinehurst in the southern Sandhills.
Here you will find some of the finest golfing terrain imaginable. From Atlantic coastline dunes to Intra coastal Waterways to the wooded forests and hills of the North Carolina heartland. The heartland is the home of the two international airports, Charlotte and Raleigh Durham, but also home to Pinehurst plus 30 other courses within 30 miles. Sometimes overlooked in the clamour to get to Myrtle Beach and the coast but Pinehurst should be on everyone's must play list!
The Heartland is known for the Sandhills region and at its heart lays Pinehurst. The Pinehurst Resort and the Pinehurst area is the hallowed ground for American golf. Some of the oldest US courses are found here and to this day, many of the courses are still the finest in the land. People come to Pinehurst to golf. Like a religion, Pinehurst has become a Mecca of golfing tradition, quality and excellence. At the Pinehurst Resort there are eight championship quality courses designed by five of the game's most renowned golf architects. Donald Ross designed and help build courses No 1-4, Ellis Maples created No. 5 Course. Robert Trent Jones added his stamp in the early 1970's when he redesigned the No. 4 Course. Rees Jones created No 7 Course and Tom Fazio designed courses No 6 and 8. Of course it is the No 2 Course that is the best known and has been the site of many championships over the years and most recently the site of the 1999 and 2005 US Opens. Apart from the resort courses, there are over 30 other courses in the Pinehurst area and we would certainly recommend a visit to Talamore, The Pit, Plantation, Longleaf and The Legacy.
If there is such a thing as golf heaven then Myrtle Beach must be that place. Sun, fun and over 100 quality golf courses draw visitors from all over the world to this 'Disneyland' for golfers. With a rare combination of mild climate, an endless beach, affordable prices, an abundance of great dining and entertainment, all served up with traditional Southern hospitality it's easy to see the appeal.
Opened in 1997, Broadway at the Beach was voted South Carolina's 'Best Attraction' in 1998. The attraction offers a great choice of restaurants, shopping, theatres and a wealth of both daytime and nigh time entertainment. Celebrity Square comes alive at night and the many bars and clubs offer music and fun entertainment for everybody. No visit to Myrtle Beach would be complete without a visit or two to this great attraction.
